About

My name is Mrs. Longlee

Here’s a short video that highlights some of my personal interests. I have a deep passion for science and thoroughly enjoy teaching it to my students. The videos I've shared reflect my enthusiasm for science education and my approach to making the subject engaging and accessible for young learners. You can check them out here: Teaching Science, These resources inspire me to create a dynamic classroom environment where students can explore scientific concepts through hands-on activities and innovative teaching strategies.

As I embark on my professional journey, I am thrilled to be starting my career in education. After three rewarding years as a substitute teacher, I have been offered a fourth-grade teaching position for the 2024-2025 school year, which is exactly where I envision myself. While I feel grounded in my current role, I firmly believe that continuous learning is essential for personal and professional growth. Stagnation can limit our ability to embrace new ideas and methodologies, which is why I am eager to embrace new opportunities for development. plays a pivotal role in education today, and I am particularly excited about this course and the skills it offers. In discussing the evolution of video conferencing tools, Google Meet has emerged as a significant player, transforming collaboration for educators and students by offering integrated solutions that outperform many traditional options (flipped classroom tutorial, 2021). landscape of technology is constantly evolving, and as educators, we must remain flexible and adaptable to harness its potential in our classrooms. The vast array of digital tools available today can significantly enhance student learning experiences, providing them with resources and insights that were not accessible in the past. I look forward to exploring the content of this course and discovering innovative ways to integrate technology into my teaching practices, ultimately enriching my students' learning experiences and fostering a culture of curiosity and exploration in the classroom.

Expertise

In Week 3 of the "Can You Hear Me Now?" module, I delved into the concept of screencasting, a powerful tool for educators that facilitates the sharing of information in a clear and engaging manner. Screencasting allows teachers to capture their computer screen while providing voiceover explanations, effectively creating instructional videos that can be shared with students. This week, I learned not only how to create these videos but also the various contexts in which they can be utilized. In discussing the flipped classroom model, it is emphasized that this approach allows students to engage with lectures at home, freeing class time for collaborative and hands-on activities, thus transforming the traditional learning environment (Martin, n.d.). The  ability to visually demonstrate concepts while narrating explanations can significantly enhance student understanding, particularly in a digital learning environment.

Reflecting on my experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, I recognize the importance of being prepared and adaptable as an educator. While I did not have the opportunity to teach during this time, I witnessed firsthand the challenges that both teachers and students faced. Transitioning from in-person classrooms to remote learning required immense effort and creativity. My colleagues often recorded their lessons and shared them with students, and these resources have remained invaluable even as we return to more traditional methods of teaching. The lessons learned during that period highlighted the necessity of incorporating technology into education, and screencasting emerged as a vital resource to bridge the gap between in-person and remote instruction.

The insights gained from this week's module on screencasting will undoubtedly influence my teaching practice moving forward. In a flipped classroom scenario, where students engage with instructional content at home before coming to class, I would leverage screencasting regularly to ensure that my students have access to clear and concise explanations. Even in a traditional classroom setting, I plan to incorporate screencasting as a supplementary tool to enhance my lessons and provide additional support for students. Overall, the knowledge I acquired about the diverse applications of screencasting technology has equipped me with valuable skills that will benefit my teaching and, ultimately, my students' learning experiences.

Effective tools

This reflection focuses on the insights I gained from the Weeks 5 and 6 modules, titled "Working Together in a Virtual World." Over the course of these two weeks, I have engaged with various tools and strategies that have enhanced my understanding of virtual collaboration and assessment.

As I began Week 5, I delved into the world of Google Forms. Although I had previously utilized Google Forms in various contexts, I had never created one from scratch. I found the process of developing my own form to be both enjoyable and incredibly practical. Once I became familiar with the features, I realized the potential of Google Forms as a versatile tool in the classroom. It can serve multiple purposes, such as collecting exit tickets, conducting formal assessments, and facilitating check-ins with students. The possibilities it offers are truly vast, making it an invaluable resource for gathering feedback and monitoring student progress.

Moving into Week 6, we explored a variety of information and tools; however, instead of using a Jamboard, we opted to create a Google Slide presentation to showcase our learnings. This provided an opportunity to reflect on how I have incorporated tools like screen recording and Google Forms into my teaching practices.  Initially labeled "cheater" for sharing ideas as a student, JB embraced collaborative learning as a teacher in 1993, fostering group discussions and problem-solving. The introduction of the Internet marked a significant change, exemplified by a successful math collaboration with a Florida classroom via AOL Chat. By 2006, tools like Google Docs & Spreadsheets further enhanced collaborative opportunities, reflecting a profound shift in educational practices.(Professor JB, 2023) now we have so many tools at our fingertips and are so blessed to be able to share them in our classrooms. I shared specific examples of how these technologies have positively impacted my teaching environment, making it more engaging and interactive for my students.

Utilizing these digital tools such as Google slides has not only made my teaching more accessible but has also fostered meaningful interactions with my students. The experience of working with these technologies has been enlightening, and I plan to implement many of the strategies I've learned both immediately and in the long term. Overall, this digital journey has significantly enriched my teaching practice and will continue to shape my approach to education in the future.
